Novice Men
The Warwick Boat Club men's novice rowing squad meets every Saturday morning at 9.30 am for a coaching session run by Jo Horsburgh and Stephen Burns. The squad caters for complete beginners and those who have a little experience with the aim of developing technique and confidence while enjoying a new sport.

Whilst we aim to develop set men's crews, we share the same water slot as the women's novice squad and will switch crews between sweep oar and sculling according to the mix of people who are available each week. A mixed quad has even been seen paddling down the 500m. This means that people can develop sculling and sweep oar as they progress and we have had a good success rate with individuals who were initially wary of venturing into a single scull.

We try and take on new people in groups which makes managing the coaching easier by having people at the same level. We also run a system where potential members can come down for a few taster sessions to see whether the sport is for them before committing to join the club.

During the summer season, the squad enters the local regattas, competing alongside other novice crews from the region. Once individuals win at novice level or become more experienced, they progress to the senior squad.

We always welcome new members so if you are interested (can swim - for obvious reasons) and would like to try rowing and sculling, please do contact us: Email: Mike Rigby or Tel: 01926 499322

Senior Women
Warwick Boat Club has a thriving Women's section. This includes weekend paddlers and serious Henley aspirants as well as just about everything in-between! Most people row in crew boats with the coxed four being the most popular closely followed by the double scull. There is also a flock/ flotilla/ fleet of committed singles which can be seen out most weekends.

The senior women (and that is a reference to their rowing/ sculling points - not their age!) can be found participating in all areas of the club, from running the glittering social events to the section committee or competing in the coxes seat. If you are really lucky you might even see them training!

The crews tend to be set coming into each season (i.e. Spring and Autumn) and train at times which suit the crew. We compete at the local regattas although there were 2 coxed fours at Henley Women's Regatta last year (enjoying the sun after racing!). There has also been International representation at the Cottwich-Almelo regatta in Holland (man the beer is good there!). For those of a gentler disposition there is the local regattas/ heads or the chats at the bar in the club house after outings!

If you have rowed before and just moved into the area of have decided you would like to get back into the sport, please contact Caroline Gosling on 07840 723249.

Novice Women
The very successful Novice Women's squad is lead by Joy Green. She takes complete beginners and teaches them the basics of the sport and more importantly the love of rowing (along with a healthy dislike of ergs!). After they lose novice status by winning their first regatta (and recover from the inevitable swim!!) they move into the senior squad.

Juniors
As a relatively small club, Warwick could not aim to run a full Project Oarsome scheme. However, in recent years, it has survived and often thrived under the tireless voluntary work of a select few of our membership, working with the resources available to them.

At the moment, the Junior section is going through a transitional period. With the safety and wellbeing of all Juniors at our club always being on the agenda (and rightly so), a dedicated and qualified role has to be filled to oversee the training, co-ordination and supervision of any junior activity. Currently, that position of Junior Co-ordinator is currently vacant so WBC's offering to young Rowers is temporarily limited.

However, with close associations with other local boat clubs and the resources that we DO have available, we can provide guidance for any Junior that has a keen interest for the sport.

Veterans
Warwick Boat Club is proud of its reputation in catering for oarsmen of more mature years. We have a strong (at least in terms of numbers) squad spanning aspirations (and successes) ranging from World Masters level and regular club regatta and ‘head’events to gentle adventures on quiet Sunday mornings for the less competitively minded. Regrettably the vet scene at Warwick is dominated by men, with only one vet lady regularly seen on the river.

Coxes
The cox is that little tiny person (think Yoda!) who sits either at the very stern- or the very bow- end of the boat, and is subsequently in charge of that boat and it's crew; s/he is therefore a part of that crew, and should be regarded as such by the other members of the crew.
