Warwick Rowing Club joined forces with Dusseldorf rowing club to help raise money for Medicines Sans Frontiers, one of the charities on the front line helping Syrian refugees.  Last weekend (20th Sept) a crew from Dusseldorf came over to the UK to join a crew from Warwick Rowing Club to compete a 50km marathon race from Lincoln to Boston as part of an overall bid to complete 92km over two marathon rows within two weeks in the UK and Germany.

The crews from both clubs enjoyed a successful race with the IM2 mixed eight from Warwick setting a new course record of 4hrs 6mins smashing the previous record by 38mins and the Dusseldorf crew were the first to complete the course in a boat of their type (thus setting the first record of its kind).

This Saturday (3rd October), two crews from Warwick Boat Club will be travelling to Dusseldorf to take part in the gruelling 42km Rhine Marathon completed in traditional German ‘gig’ style rowing boats competing against crews from all over Germany and the rest of the world with the hope for similar success.

All in aide of raising money for charity, with an aim to raise £1,500 (we are halfway there):  https://www.justgiving.com/MarathonRhine/

back row: Derek Taylor, Lucy Rogers, Phil Tonkin, Ed Walker, Gill Benson, Rich Nicholson
front row:  Heather Yates, Cox – Tanya Podinovskaia, Sarah Heaven

There was also more success for Warwick Boat Club at the Boston Marathon as Martin Le Tocq was victorious in the Masters G single scull beating his opponent by just 90 seconds over the distance.

Results:

Boston mixed 8 IM2 - 4.06.46 - a new record, knocking over half an hour off the previous best time - well done!

Jonny Messling IM1 1x - 4.30.34 - an excellent time considering he was laid low earlier in the week with a virus and didn't think he'd make it - well done!

Martin Le Toq G1x - 4.34.13

Duesseldorf: Mx.MasA.4x+ - 5.02.42

Great results and a credit to all the hours of training everyone has put in over the summer.
