I have been a rowing member of WBC since 2007 and served as Captain of Boats from 2011 to 2018. I was elected to the General Management Committee in 2021 as the holder of the Estate portfolio, leading on matters concerning the grounds and buildings. I am one of the Club’s Directors.
The year started with significant improvements to the paving and pathways around the site and getting on top of some overdue maintenance tasks, particularly the trees.
During the year, I have renegotiated the Club’s electricity contracts, helping to shield us from the worst of the recent price hikes with a good deal, based on renewables, fixed for several years.
I have been closely involved in the ongoing debate on improvement of the facilities, to which I hope to continue to contribute, bringing a balanced and pragmatic voice. My aim is that we deliver improvements the members want on a budget the Club can afford.
Already planned for the coming year are:
· improvements to both the indoor and outdoor lighting - improving members’ safety and maximising energy efficiency,
· further tree maintenance, particularly where overhanging the courts and buildings,
· provision of new modern, secure & well-lit bicycle racks.
I’d particularly like to continue to promote sustainability throughout. The Club’s grounds offer a fantastic natural habitat which we have a duty to protect and enhance, and we I believe have scope for better use of renewable energy and water resources
