Rowing Squads

Rowing Squads at Warwick Boat Club

We cater for all levels of rowing ability at WBC, from experienced rowers looking to compete at a National level, to recreational members and even those looking to take up the sport.

For those looking to start their rowing journey and learn the basics, please check out our Beginners page.

For experienced rowers, the squads at Warwick offer structure and organised crews, and are a great way to get involved and meet fellow rowers at the club. Our squads compete locally and nationally at head races and regattas, and in recent years have enjoyed success at Henley and National Master’s competitions.

There is however no requirement to be in a squad; for those looking to row recreationally or be less structured, experienced rowers can arrange to get out in their own time. Warwick also has a limited number of private racks for singles, with a waiting list for any new requests.

Women's Squads

We have a thriving women's section at WBC, with the numbers involved in the squads growing every season. It's never a bad time to get involved! If you are interested, please contact the women's captain by emailing womens-rowing@warwickboatclub.co.uk.

Club Squad

The heart and core of women's rowing at Warwick, the Club squad welcomes experienced rowers who have rowed elsewhere before, or who have come through our LTR programme. The squad is friendly and encourages people to get involved in any type of boat, from sculls to bigger crew boats and eights. Racing is always encouraged but is optional, with crews being put together for regular events in the local region as well as highlights on the calendar such as WEHoRR.

Sessions are organised centrally by the Club squad coordinator and are arranged around people's availability. A typical week might be 2-3 water sessions with an optional land training session on the ergs. Timings are dependent on people's availability and would be early mornings or evenings in the week, and/or mornings at the weekend.

Coaching is available from our voluntary coaching team, most typically during our dedicated coached 9:30 - 11:00 Saturday session.

Senior Squad

For those looking to dedicate their time to the sport and compete at a higher level, the Senior squad facilitates experienced rowers to train frequently. Targeting both local and national level events across the season, our Seniors aim for races such as Fours Head, WEHoRR, Henley Women's Regatta and Senior Champs.

Sessions are organised centrally by the Senior squad coordinator, with training planned around the race calendar. Senior rowers are expected to attend a nominal number of water sessions, and fit in the land training either at the club or at their own home or gym facilities. A typical week would see 3-5 water sessions (early mornings midweek and weekend mornings), with land training of 1-2 erg and 1-2 weight sessions.

Coaching is carried out by our voluntary coaching team, who also assist the selection of race crews. Selection for this is based on a combination of fitness, technical ability, and commitment. There are currently no erg score requirements for entry into this squad, but a minimum level of ability and fitness is expected.

Masters Squad

If you're an experienced rower wanting to train and compete in the age-banded Masters categories of rowing, then the Masters squad is for you! The majority of our current members are 40 through to 60+, so there are plenty of options for categories and boat types. There is no set age limit for the Masters squad, so each individual is welcome to decide which squad that suits their experience and asipration.

Sessions are flexible and are organised by members of the squad, and are typically 2 times a week on the water, with 1 erg and 1 land training a week as optional but encouraged sessions.

The Masters squad race at various local events throughout the year, with the main goals being Veterans' Head, British Rowing Masters Champs, and Henley Masters.

Men's Squads
