Warwick Boat Club started off the regatta season with several wins at Evesham Regatta, held on the river Avon on 2nd and 3rd of May. There were win's in men's, women's, Masters and mixed events, including de-novicing several of our members.
Saturday's race over 1000m included wins in the Women's coxed four, Women's Masters Eight and a Masters Single.
The women's IM3 four of Lucy Rogers, Claire Hurley, Anna Southall and Kate Parkinson, coxed by Sam Wesley, had 3 fantastic rows, to win their final against Pangbourne by a canvas.
The women's Masters eight of Anna Southall, Clare Hurley, Lucy Rogers, Kate Evans, Gill Benson, Hilary Thomas, Yana Vinogradova and Lisa Brooks, coxed by Sam Wesley, fought hard against their opposition's 5 second headstart to row through them in the finishing stages of the race.
Chris Skuse completed the Saturday's wins for Warwick.
Sunday's race over 500m was a success for our Open coxed four and Mixed coxed four.
The Open coxed fours event resulted in a Warwick Warwick final, with Phil Tonkin, Andy Collett, Sean and Chris, coxed by Alison Tonkin taking a comfortable victory.
The mixed four of Gill Benson, Lucy Rogers, Ed Walker and Charlie Wragg, coxed by Tanya Podinovskaia claimed the final victory for Warwick of the weekend, in a straight final against Evesham.
Other notable performances included Jeremiah Trazic's first ever race - in a single scull, and an IM3 double of Adam Edgeller and Nick Lucey who narrowly missed a win in their final.
With the first regatta out of the way, the squads are now forming crews for the coming regattas at Worcester, Peterborough and Masters Champs. Watch this space...
